Subaru of America continues to invest in today’s youth through initiatives like the Student Spaceflight Experiments Program (SSEP). The automaker renewed its partnership with the National Center for Earth and Space Science Education in a two-year commitment.
Subaru will donate $50,000 during that time to provide the funds necessary for middle schools around the country to join the program.
Through the program, students participate in a Flight Experiment Design Competition in which they have the opportunity to gain experience writing a formal research proposal and conducting research in a community mini-laboratory.
It sounds like quite the in-depth research program for middle school students, but we at Hassett Automotive have faith the youth in our community would be up for the challenge should the program expand into our area.
“Subaru is proud to be a national partner of the Student Spaceflight Experiments Program,” said Sandra Capell, Subaru’s philanthropy and corporate responsibility manager. “At Subaru, we encourage innovation and believe that engaging students in unique learning opportunities, such as the SSEP, are important in helping to prepare and inspire the next generation of leaders.”
The SSEP began in June 2010 and Subaru has been a dedicated partner since 2013.
The 12th annual Ford Neighborhood Awards were last weekend, August 8-10, in Atlanta. The awards seek to recognize people and businesses that make a difference in their community.
Award categories included Best High School Coach, Nail Salon, School Teacher, Car Wash/Detail Shop, Church Choir, Soul Food Place, Barber Shop, High School, Barbecue Place, Beauty Salon, Church, and Community Leader.
These people/businesses were nominated by their peers, and four finalists were selected in each category. Voting was then opened to the public to select the winner in each category.
A star-studded cast of celebrities presented the awards, and the event was hosted by Steve Harvey, comedian and host of the popular TV show Family Feud.
As the title sponsor of the awards, Ford gave the winner for Best Community Leader $30,000 to donate to his charity of choice. The winner was Stan Richards of Washington, DC.
“The Ford Neighborhood Awards continues to represent a mainstay within the African American community,” said Shawn Thompson, manager of Ford multicultural marketing. “Each year this show gets bigger, and Ford is excited to be able to present the Community Leader of the Year Award recipient with a check for $30,000 to ultimately give back to the local community.”

Every December Subaru does a sales event called the “Share the Love” event. Some of you have probably heard about this event, but just in case you haven’t, let us tell you! Basically, Subaru has five charities picked out that they will donate $250 to for every vehicle purchased or leased while the “Share the Love” Event is going on. Those charities are the Alzheimer’s Association, ASPCA, the Make a Wish Foundation, Meals on Wheels, and the USO.
And now, thanks to more than 100,000 new owners and over 620 Subaru dealerships, Subaru has now donated nearly $25 million to charity!
Hassett Automotive is proud to have been a part of this great accomplishment, and we would like to thank everyone that purchased or leased a new Subaru from Hassett Subaru during the “Share the Love” Event. Because of you and the choice that you made, someone’s day was made a little brighter. We’re already looking forward to being a part of this great event later this year!
If you’re interested in learning more about this event, or if you have any questions about a Subaru vehicle, feel free to stop by Hassett Automotive, or give us a call at 866-525-9066.
