Information for the 2017 Ford Focus Electric has finally been released and the updates are definitely exciting. Where the former Focus Electric has a range of just 76 miles, the 2017 model gets a huge boost for a much more versatile range of 115 miles on a single charge.
This is the rating that was projected at the Los Angeles Auto Show in November, though official EPA estimates haven’t been released yet. The Focus Electric also got a small boost in energy efficiency, going from 105 MPGe to 107.
The battery pack is brand new with a powerful 33.5 kWh that keep the Focus Electric in competition with other segment vehicles like the Nissan LEAF. The motor, according to Ford, is the same as the 2016 model – a 107 kW electric motor.
The exterior of the Focus Electric is the same as the previous models, though the charging port cover is bigger and more oblong than the previous round version. It also has a fast-charging option that wasn’t available on the 2016 model.
Not much else has been released about the new Focus Electric, but the boost in range plus the general popularity of the Focus is sure to make this one of the biggest electric cars of 2017.
Late in the game, the 2014 Ford Focus continues to make waves due to its exceptional safety. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) awarded the 2014 Focus with an Overall Rating of five stars in their New Car Assessment Program, which is the most a car can earn overall by the NHTSA. Of note in this assessment was the stability control and anti-lock braking system, which watches for road conditions and applies subtle engine power adjustments and braking to keep all wheels firmly planted on the ground.
In addition, the 2014 Ford Focus has also earned the “Top Safety Pick” from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). IIHS noted the 2013 addition of a driver knee airbag “designed to minimize knee injuries in frontal crashes.” The Focus is also constructed from high-strength and ultra-high-strength steel which keeps the force of impact away from all occupants in the vehicle.

When the Polk new vehicle registration data came out last month, Ford tore open the report to read it as quickly as a kid opening presents on Christmas morning. And, just like those kids, the things they found inside the report were anything but disappointing. The results are in, and, once again, the Ford Focus is the best-selling nameplate across the world.
How did the Blue Oval elect to celebrate this continued achievement? By making an all-new, even more improved version of the Focus, of course! The new Focus, on display right now at the New York International Auto Show, promises to sell even more units than the 1,097,618 sold in 2013.
“It is remarkable to see Focus again lead the industry as the No. 1-selling vehicle nameplate on the planet,” said Jim Farley, Ford executive vice president, Ford Motor Company Global Marketing, Sales and Service and Lincoln. “With the new car, we’ve raised the bar again, showcasing Ford’s commitment to continuous improvement – adding better technology for drivers and a sleeker, more modern exterior across the entire Focus family.”
