Do you remember the Ford Atlas concept that was on display at the 2013 Detroit Auto Show? Did you like the brawny design? If so, you’re going to love the new 2015 Ford F-150. Its design is remarkably similar to the Atlas.
Ford introduced the new 2015 F-150 at this year’s North American International Auto Show in Detroit. The one thing that is on everyone’s minds is the extensive use of aluminum in the body of the truck.
You might be wondering how aluminum will hold up in place of steel, but according to Ford’s extensive testing, it will be just as sturdy and will provide additional benefits, such as not rusting and because of its light weight it will make the trucks more fuel efficient.
To test the use of aluminum in the F-150, Ford started a pilot program where it lent out trucks to businesses, such as construction firms and utility companies. Ford did not tell them about the aluminum content in the trucks and after over 300,000 miles of testing, Ford was convinced of the benefits of using the new metal.
The new truck is 700 pounds lighter than the previous model and this should equal significant fuel savings. The 2015 F-150 should go on sale near the end of this year.
