It’s that time of the year again! College seniors all over the country are getting ready to graduate and move on to a new chapter of life. What an exciting time! It’s a time of making new friends, settling into a new job, and probably getting your very first car. Now, we may not have too much advice to offer on making new friends or finding your first job, but we sure know a lot about cars. So without further ado, we would like to share with you a few things you can learn from your first car:
Self-Reliance. Whether you’re figuring out how to change your windshield wipers, learning to check your oil, or popping out a dent, it’s all up to you now. You may have had your dad, or some other mentor to help you with these things growing up, but that’s probably not the case anymore. Think back to all the things you learned growing up and trust yourself.
Selflessness. Cars present a great opportunity to put your own interests aside and help someone else. Don’t be afraid to volunteer to drive, or even jump-start someone in need.
Budgeting. This is perhaps the best lesson your first car can teach you. Filling up your gas tank, paying for insurance, and being ready for unforeseen repairs is now something you need to plan for financially. My best advice when it comes to a budget is – be realistic.
Responsibility. Anytime you are driving a car with others on board, you have their lives in your hand. Sure, it may seem a little dramatic, but it’s true. Never forget how responsibility you have when driving someone else, and please, please, PLEASE – never text and drive.
Joy. Lastly, enjoy your first car. It truly is a joy to have the ability to drive wherever you want, whenever you want. Love it. Find a cool road. Go for a long road trip.
