Just recently, as Ford has begun to develop a global product strategy, the world has started to see how innovative the American auto manufacturer can be. Ford’s success with global models like the Focus, Fiesta, and Escape (Kuga) has been in large part thanks to strong concept vehicles in the past which eventually evolve into working production cars. With the influx of auto shows within the last few months, Ford has been showing off the new compact C-Max vehicle which is a cross between a hatchback, a small suv, and a family multi-purpose vehicle.

From the exterior, it’s obvious that Ford’s designers wanted to make a statement both stylistically and functionally. The sloping design is reminiscent of the Focus and Fiesta but with a new twist. For American markets the C-Max will be introduced as a either a hybrid or a plug-in hybrid which will be known as C-Max Hybrid and C-Max Energi respectively. To power the hybrid, Ford will outfit the C-Max with a 2.0-liter Atkinson-cycle gasoline engine with an electric motor which should generate around 185 horsepower.

How will this car stack up against the intense competition? Only time will tell. In the mean time, check out the 2012 Ford Focus at Hassett of Wantagh which will share the same platform as the C-Max.
