Years ago, parents of older teenagers used to worry about “how they’re going to keep them down on the farm after they’ve seen ‘Par-ee’?”, also known as Paris. After all, your average farm offers considerably less glamour and excitement.
Today, Ford Motor Company has both domestic and foreign competitors asking the same question. Statistical results from Ford’s on-going “Swap Your Ride” sales event are showing a large number of people eager to give up their current vehicle once they’ve driven a comparable Ford model.
“I thought I loved my Toyota Camry,” explained Scott L. from Merrick, NY, who attended the Ford ‘Swap Your Ride’ event at Hassett Ford on Sunrise Highway in nearby Wantagh; “but after driving a new Ford Fusion for just a few minutes, I couldn’t wait to swap.”
According to Lou Evans, General Sales Manager for Hassett, Long Island’s #1 volume Ford Lincoln dealership (based on 2009 & 2010 calendar year retail sales for LI from the Ford sales report) he’s seen this played out all during the event. “Once we put someone behind the wheel of a new Ford, chances are they’ll want to ‘swap’ their current vehicle. And the individual model doesn’t matter…I’ve seen the same reaction Scott had with the Fusion happen to others with the Ford Focus, Fiesta, Taurus, and of course, the Ford Mustang. As soon as people experience everything Ford offers, it’s impossible for them to feel the same for what they’ve been driving.”
While looks have a lot to do with the desire to “Swap’, the vast majority of Ford converts attribute their attraction to such factors as superior fuel efficiency, technology, and overall driving enjoyment. “All the new Ford models offer great fuel efficiency,” notes Evans; “many as high as 40 miles per gallon. Add that to EcoBoost™ technology for improved power and driving dynamics, plus technological innovations like voice-activated SYNC® for simpler phone and music enjoyment, and it’s not hard to understand why they can’t go back to their old ride.”
“I’d never done anything like this before,” confessed Wantagh resident Jill B. “But once I wrapped my arms around that wild Mustang’s steering wheel, it was ‘sayonara Civic’. Anyone who hasn’t “Swapped’ yet doesn’t know what they’re missing.”
